Hotel overview

Set on the peaceful Peaks Island, The Inn On Peaks Island offers relaxed 3-star accommodations with airy suites featuring cathedral ceilings and whirlpool tubs. The inn’s casual charm is complemented by its seafood-centric American restaurant and a lively bar serving local brews. These airy suites combine rustic island character with modern comfort, making it a favored base for exploring Casco Bay’s small-town charm.

Guests enjoy easy access from the ferry dock and nearby bike trails, beaches, and historic museums like the Fifth Maine Regiment Museum. While the inn does not offer an on-site fitness center or airport shuttle, free parking and free Wi-Fi cater well to practical needs. The absence of breakfast and pet-friendliness may shape some plans, but the friendly reception and heartfelt service often shine through reviews.

The location stands out for its harbor views from select rooms and proximity to The Pub On Peaks Island, a restaurant known locally for its seafood dishes and relaxed atmosphere. Given its role as a wedding venue, visitors might occasionally find the ambiance lively, especially during events hosted in the reception space.

“Great experience! Easy walk from the ferry dock, lovely inn, loved our room, which had a balcony and chairs looking out across the harbor. Westward facing, so we had beautiful sunsets. Comfortable bed and pillows. Good shower. Erin, our innkeeper, was friendly and helpful. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is that she could be hard to find. The restaurant was closed, as the off season hours are limited. All in all, an excellent inn and experience.”

“Came here for a group lobster bake with a ships tour group. I guess the whole show was the lobster lunch which was actually quite superb withe mussels, corn, potato, lemonade and a sliver of dessert. But the staffing was short and although we sat next to a bar and I asked for a beer, the staff were too busy to serve me. Kinda weird, the idea was to get us in and get us out. Disappointing as there isn't much of anything else in the area as you wait for the next ferry to get back to Portland.”

“My wife and I stayed here for two nights in early August and had lunch here one of the days. We stayed in the ram Island suite which included a king bed, living room, refrigerator, back patio area, as well as a balcony that overlooked the main hill leading down to the ferry. We were very pleased with the suite as a whole. We did not bump into or interact with any of the other guests that were staying at the Inn, which speaks on the quietness of the inn itself. There is no front desk for the inn itself, so all questions have to be addressed to the restaurant staff if you have them or call the number listed in the room. The location of the Inn could not be any better. It is just up the hill after getting off the ferry that is required to get to the island. It is a $14 round-trip from Portland to the island and back. The ferry takes about 15 minutes and honestly is a great view of Casco Bay and the surrounding area. We had lunch at a rather busy time and had no complaints similar to some of the other reviews on here. We had the burger, fish tacos, french fries and beers. Staff was friendly and service was quick. All the surrounding tables seem to have timely service as well. There are a limited number of restaurants on the island and this is a great option.”

“What a great place! Inn location was right up the street from the ferry and we could walk to restaurants. Our room was really nice (comfy bed and couch), though I'd suggest adding a full-length mirror and a hand-towel rod for the bathroom. The thermostat also didn't appear to be working, though the gas fireplace kept things nice and warm. Restaurant staff were so friendly and the food was very good. We'd stay there again, though you might want to ask if there's a wedding scheduled during your stay. Our room was right above the reception room, so we got to enjoy the band until they were required to end things at 10:15 pm (so people could catch the last ferry). Overall, very enjoyable.”

“I don’t usually leave reviews, but felt like I had to! This Inn is truly something special. The people who work here are so sweet and accommodating. I get easily grossed out by hotels, but when I stepped into our room it just FELT clean. Upon further inspection, it proved to be very clean!! The beds are very comfortable and the sheets/comforter are as soft as the ones you have at home. While you do have to ride the ferry back and forth between the island and peaks island, we honestly didn’t mind that at all. The island provides such a unique and relaxing aspect to your Maine trip. Also, the restaurant at the Inn is to die for. It was one of our favorite meals we ate our whole trip!! In summary, just stay here! The staff, the inn, and the island are something really special.”
